Locations

Below is a list and brief description about any cities or towns visited or mentioned through the novel, as well as what characters live or are met there. This will not contain any historical information on these places and is meant to give everyone a deeper look at these locations.

  • Kima Village ~ A small, religious village established years ago to be Furmuth only. Every home and building is made by Furmuth, by hand, with no assistance from magic. Due to this, their homes traditionally resemble log cabins with woven leaves, twigs, twine, and cloth coated in animal fat for the roof. Their religion dictates they mustn’t knowingly benefit from magic, so their homes have to be made this way. They often refuse any help or materials that have been processed using magic. They also tend not to ask how materials were procured, otherwise they would have nothing to build homes or make clothes with, or sometimes even food if there is a shortage in the village, because magic is used so regularly everywhere else.

The Takar Forest ~ This forest surrounds the Makara’s main city and was named after the Takar; large scaled beasts thought to be myth. Very few outsiders have ever been allowed into the forest. Anyone foolish enough to enter without permission has either disappeared or returned as a fearful shell of their former self. Those that have returned repeatedly mention the forests protectors and fear ever seeing them again. They are often referred to as “The Makara’s Winged Protectors.”

Alcera ~ The first major city established in our setting and the first and only mixed race city of the time. Known as the welcoming city, Alcera considered itself home to anyone and everyone. Alcera accepted all currencies circulating at the time as well as offering food and supplies to those in need, asking only that they contribute to the city in some way.

Vanira ~ Known as the City of Freedom, Vanira allows any and all acts within its walls, regardless of their usual legality. Makara patrolling the city will often ignore what they witness unless it violates one of the two concrete rules of Vanira; those involved are not being caused undue or unwanted harm, and the act was not witnessed by the general public. This has lead the city to garner a reputation as both the best and worst city on the continent.

People from all races will come to Vanira to indulge in actions which would otherwise be outlawed. It is common for a group to visit and take up temporary residence within the city. Building and offering desirable locations has become a lucrative industry for permanent citizens, and is the cleanest industry in Vanira. It is not, however, the most lucrative industry in the city.

Other industries that thrive in Vanira include all manner of intimate encounters and mind altering substances. Despite this, crime has remained minimal throughout the city’s history. This is due mainly to fear of retaliation from victims of criminal activity. Their secrets are as easy to discover and reveal as it is to experience anything a person can afford in Vanira.

  • Olesi ~ Home of the Oluvan, known by several names including; The City of Historians, Tree City (so called by the Furmuth), City of Wisdom, and even The Barred City. The Oluvan people created their city in a way that respects nature, and exists symbiotically with it. Every aspect of Olesi was built with magic, encouraging the trees and plants to grow into the form the Oluvan considered to be best for themselves and the surrounding area. Not a single piece of the city’s infrastructure impedes or negatively impacts nearby flora or fauna.
